National Track & Field Championships

Telecommunications giants, MTN Uganda have staked UShs 5M and other prizes for leading athletes gearing in the seasonal National Track and Field Championships that will run two days; July 19-20, 2013 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, Kampala.
Participants at the two-day championships are raring to take advantage of the last local event to qualify for the World Championships whose deadline is July 29, 2013.
The National championships which comprise competing district teams,Universities, the forces, corporate institutions and schools that feature as clubs, will be vying for national individual rankings and top team honours.
Uganda Prisons club is the defending champion while Ndejje University finished second and Serere District third in last year’s edition.
Spectators are urged to take advantage of free entry to the stadium to watch an exciting and entertaining climax of the 2013 which has attracted Uganda’s top 20 elite runners benefiting from the State House funding led by Moses Kipsiro, Dorcus Inzikuru, Annet Negesa (800m/1500m), Thomas Ayeko, Benjamin Kiplagat and Jacob Araptany.
The others on the State House list include Juliet Chekwel, Peter Kibet, Zacharia Kiprotich, Geoffrey Kusuro, Dickson Huru, Moses Kibet, Viola Chemos, Philip Kipyego, Nancy Cheptegei, Rebecca Chaptegei and Simon Ayeko among many middle and long distance runners.
MTN Uganda and Aqua Sipi Water are the exclusively sponsoring the 2 day event.
