Uganda Cranes and URA FC defender Joseph Owino is inches closer to a deal that will see him return to former club Simba SC of Tanzania Kawowo Sports has learnt.
Impeccable sources from the Msimbazi indicate that negotiations between Owino and the club are smoothly moving on after the newly appointed URA FC skipper impressed during the tax collectors’ pre-season tour in which they have so far played two games winning 2-1 versus Simba and 2-2 draw against Yanga FC.
After the Simba game, the Tanzanian club Head of player recruitment and registration Zacharia Hans Poppe made it clear the club was impressed with Owino’s performance and were willing to re-sign him if possible.
“He looks well healed and plays very well. He has, honestly, impressed all members of our technical bench. We have been made aware that he has four months left on his contract with URA. We will try to find out whether can initiate transfer talks immediately”, said Poppe.
On Monday 23, Poppe further revealed that negotiations over a possible deal for Owino’s return are at advanced stages and going on well.
“We have held talks with the player and the club. Things are going on well and Owino is returning to Msimbazi”, Poppe told Tanzania Sports Website Bin Zubeiry.
Poppe denied reports that Simba SC ignored the former SC Villa star when he got injured in 2011.
“We never ignored the player”, he said. “When he got injured, we flew him to India for treatment and de-registered him just to allow him a year to heal and he went to Azam on loan after that”.
When contacted on his thought on the move back to Simba, Owino said he had no problem with it asserting that Simba is like home to him.
“I have no problem. Simba is like home and it’s not surprising at all”.
If all goes as expected, Owino will join Uganda Cranes goalie Abel Dhaira and midfielder in Msimbazi team but former URA FC team mate Sam Ssenkoomi is likely to exit given his failure to impress the technical staff in the two weeks he has been at the club.
“Ssenkoomi is a good player but no different from the defenders we have here and so there is no need to spend on him”.
Inside reports indicate that Ssenkoomi had signed a pre-deal of two years but subject to approval after impressing the technical bench which he hasn’t done so far.
As usual, we shall keep you posted on the development.
