Tony Blair (not former UK Prime Minister) is among the 128 Ugandan pool players that have been drawn to play in the much cherished Nile Special Open Pool Championships set for Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala on 31st August 2012.

The draws have been held at Senator Hall in Emerald Hotel along Bombo Road, Kampala on Monday morning before a packed house of pool players, Pressmen, the sponsors (Nile Breweries Limited), Pool Association of Uganda officials including the President, Farouq Kisuze and other well wishers.

“As a champion brand, Nile Special is glad to associate with winners and champions, Pool players are all champions”, Timothy Kayondo, the Nile Special Brand Manager remarked.

The exercise was presided over by Paul ‘Pipo’ Kayanja, the PAU Organizing secretary. In the draw conducted, the Country’s first seeded pool player, Alfred Gumisiriza was drawn in number one against Patrick Sserubiri while Tonny Blair, who excited many was drawn number 37 against former seed one, Jonah Turigye.

The top 8 seeded players can only meet at the quater final stage while seed one and two(Amos Ndyagumanawe) can only meet again at the finals in case both players successfully win all their encounters.

Favourite, Oscar Ocackon, a Ntinda based banker, who qualified from Rock Catalina was drawn to play against Innocent Rukundo while Wilson Josh, a pool attendant at the Namirembe based Leisure Tec was drawn to play against Billy Barungi.

“I thank the Sponsors, the players, the press, umpires and the PAU executive for the work thus far, please keep up the spirit”, remarked Kisuze, the Pool Association of Uganda President.

This tournament annual proudly sponsored by Nile Breweries (under the Nile Special beer brand) will be based on the black ball pool rules. All the players are expected to adhere to the dress code of a black trouser or skirt.

This year’s tourney winner will smile home with a brand new Toyota Progress,Ug.shs 2 million and 2 pool tables while the runners up will pocket Ug.sh 1 million. The winner and all the former winners will don that famous winner’s jacket and will automatically become the 2013/14 Nile Special Pool Ambassador.
