Scratch players Daniel Baguma and Titus Okwong, returned recently from a junior golf tour in Kenya where they took part in three junior golf tournaments in Nairobi.
The two junior golfers who play their game from Toro Golf Club and are part of the Uganda junior golf team finished third at the prestigious Kenya Junior Open in Muthaiga. Baguma returned with scores of 79,74,72,80 gross while Okwong finished with 74, 75,78,83 gross thus finishing third in the junior tournament that was won by South African Hennie du Plessis.
Baguma finished third in the subsidiary and won himself an award.
“It was a good experience for us even though we didn’t win to us the most important aspect is getting exposure and learning from other golfers from outside Uganda,” Okwong said. “We would have done better, but the weather was cold and hopefully we shall do better next time.”
The duo then took part in the Kabete Open where Baguma finished tenth with scores of 80,76,78 gross while Okwong was 14th with scores of 78,83,79 gross.
The two junior golfers are part of the Western Golf Association(WEGA) initiative to develop players from tje Western region and also develop a strong youth golf squad.
They concluded their tour with a game in the Sigona Match Play U-19 junior championship.
