The long awaited 2013 Nile special Open Pool Championships has finally kicked off at the MTN Arena in Lugogo. 128 pool players are vying for the most prestigious prize at stake, a brand new Toyota progress vehicle, on top of Ug.Shs 2 Million, a winners’ jacket and two pool tables.
Fahad Ssewankambo, the 2013 Easter Pool Champion, has so far got an easy run with a bye following an impersonation case against Wilber Atwine. The latter was thus disqualified. Isaac Mukaabya got a bye over John Wanyama, who delayed to report to the playing arena.
By press time,the country’s seed 4 Yves Kaneza had been knocked out by Nicolas Lukyamuzi 3-1. Other seeded victims to crush out are Ronnie Kalungi,Charles Ssegawa and Ssalongo Asuman Bukenya. Robert Mugabe (not Zimbabwe President) was beaten 2-3 by Fred Ssemakula while Enock Lwanga had knocked out Saul Lubega 3-0.
First and second round games are best of five while the quarterfinals and semis will be played on a best of 7. The finals are to be played on best of 13.
All the prizes are courtesy of Nile Breweries Limited, under the brand, Nile Special.They have who sunk in a whopping Ug.shs 134 Million.
16 Specialy Nile Special Pool tables are being used while 20 umpires, who underwent a 3 day special training session at Pacify Motel in Wakaliga.
