2009 Uganda Open winner Peter Ssenduala shot a three under par 68 to take an early lead at the 71st Tusker Malt Uganda Amateur Golf Open championship at the par 71 Entebbe golf course.
“I am pleased with the way I have played today and I hope to maintain this momentum through out the tournament,” Ssendaula said. “I am used to the course outlay and that gives me the added advantage however I can only say the other golfers are still in the race to turn the tide around.”
Last year’s winner Philip Kasozi, shot 5 over par 76 to remain in contention for the tournament. “I messed up on 4 inch putt on hole number four that made be get out of the fairway and shot into the trees however I still believe I can change and chase the game,” Kasozi said. “I like chasing the pack and I hope I can turn my fortunes around.”
2011 winner Rogers Byaruhanga, returned to the club house with 8 over par 79 as he remained inside the chase for the title.
The premium golf tournament on the Uganda Golf Union calendar will conclude on Saturday with a grand prize giving ceremony at the 19th hole.
This year Uganda Breweries under their premium brand Tusker Malt have sunk a total of 100 million with 30 million going for the professionals.
