By the time different sides wake up, Tornado B will be way far on road close to clinching this year’s Multiple Industries Division One 50-Over Cricket League.
What was expected to be a thrilling second round opener turned into a disappointment after lowly ranked Patidar Samaj failed to turn up for their game against Tornado B on Sunday.
The 2010 and 2011 winners failed to show up for the clash scheduled for the lakeside oval in Entebbe.
That extended Tornado B’s lead atop the eight-team log with five to make 46 points from eight outings and they are yet to lose a match.
“We expected some competition but we got away with easy points,” Tornado B’s batsman cum wicket keeper Nicholas Kebba told Kawowo Sports on Sunday.
“We obviously shift our focus to the next six games and we’ll keep our strategy we’ve had all through.” he added.
But Patidar’s failure to honour their fixture ought to call for action from Uganda Cricket Association’s (UCA) competition committee. “I received a text message from my captain Ankit Patel that the game had been called off,” Patidar’s Abdalah Lubega told this website.
“I understand some of our players were away in India so we could not play,” Lubega’s teammate Faruk Ochimi said.
“No player had turned up by 9:55 am and the game starts 9:30am. There was no communication from their camp.” Kebba reasoned.
Patidar continue to languish in seventh position with just 13 points from eight ties, above bottom side SKLPS who suffered a 185-run defeat to Wanderers.
