1st-14th October 2013:
African Rowing Championships
Gerald Gamreal Ssemambo, fresh from the World Rowing Championships in Europe will lead the team of 3 to the Africa Rowing Championships slated for the Tunisian capital of Tunis for October 1st to 14th 2013.
Uganda’s celebrated rower, Ssemambo was a beneficiary of a special 4 month training programme in the Holland with the Hollande Bekker where he benefited from several basics of the game, skills development and exposure to experienced rowers world over.
Gerald, who will race in the lightweight single sculler is Uganda’s best rowing prospect who is highly tipped for a greater future ahead of himself and the sport in general in Uganda.
His experience will be key to inspire Douglas Kisarale and Alfred Okello, who will also participate in the light weight double scull event at the same championships.
The team is currently undergoing non- residential training at the Luzira based Miami beach ahead of the championships where the continent’s finest rowers are expected to take part.
“The boys are responding well to the training in the water, we appeal for the Government and corporate companies for more logistical and financial support”, says, coach Rodrick Muhumuza, who is training the team.
This is a great trend of development for the Uganda Rowing Federation ever since Hamuza Kahwa was voted into presidency. They have successfully organized Level one technical course for Rowing coaches under the guidance of FISA instructor, Mr. Jim Flood and sent the top coach, Muhumuza for several training stints in Kenya and South African exposure.
A special send off ceremony for the team is planned in the coming week. Keep on www.kawowo.com for details as they unfold.
Success Team Uganda.
