Uganda’s top golf professional Deo Akope, has set his eyes on a landmark in the Dubai Creek Open which swings into action today at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club in the United Arab Emirates.
“I will be making my debut in this event and I hope I can make a sudden break through and make the cut in this lucrative tournament,” Akope said. “I want to see how things will go for me if they turn out to be well then next year I will frequent the tour.”
This tournament is part of the Mena Golf tour and event that has several golfers play in the Middle East and North Africa thus trying to break into the more lucrative European Tour Challenge.
Akope will be trying to be the first East African golfer to make the cut on the tour. “It is not an easy task, but I believe I have gained experience and believe I can handle the situation,” Akope said. “This is the shortest route to breaking into the European tour and hope I can make it.”
The other Ugandan golfer who will travel for this tournament is Dennis Anguyo. Last year Godfrey Mande, make his debut, but failed to make the cut on his first attempt.
The Mena Golf tour is remaining with tournaments in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman.
