Egypt 3-0 Uganda
For a third consecutive time in less than two months, Uganda Cranes have once again lost to Egypt’s Pharaohs. In an international friendly game played at Cairo International Stadium, Cairo, Zamalek stars Ahmed Eid and Mohammad Abdel-Shafy scored a goal apiece while youngster Ahmed Samir added the third in the closing stages of the game. Ahmed Eid did repeat the feat he achieved on Monday by scoring the opening goal in the 29th minute before two second half goals from Mohammad Abdel-Shafy and Amir Samir.
Despite fielding a defensive minded side, The Cranes couldn’t contain Bob Bradley’s side that was without foreign based and Al Ahly players posting a similar result as they managed on August 14 in El Gouna. After finishing the first half with a goal down, Micho made some changes bringing on URA C goalie Brian Bwete for Benjamin Ochan, Simon Okwi for Frank Kalanda who is yet to score in five games for both cub and country and Said Kyeyune for debutant Jonathan Mugabi but the Pharaohs proved to too hot to handle. With the loss, Uganda has now lost four of its last five matches.
Uganda should have at least got a consolation goal but Brian Majwega was at fault for missing a penalty after Joseph Mpande was fouled inside the 18 yard box. The KCC FC midfielder; one of Uganda’s best player on the afternoon blasted it over the bar.
The Cranes have lost thrice to Egypt and once to Senegal with the single win coming over Botswana. Cranes are preparing for the forthcoming 2013 Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup to be held in Kenya between November 27 and December 12 plus Chan finals scheduled for January in South Africa.
Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports that Uganda and Egypt may clash again in a friendly before the Pharaohs meet Ghana in the first leg of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on October 15.
