A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Private soldier, Timothy Okwi playing off handicap 9 carded 74 points at the 16th JBG Golf open tournament played on a stable ford format over the weekend in Entebbe.

“I am very happy for my victory. After winning the 2013 Group B Uganda open category, i knew winning a major championships was coming”, a smiling Okwi, who works with the land forces at the Entebbe VVIP Airport wing spoke at the 19th Hole after picking his winner’s trophy and a new golf kit received from Germany’s ambassador to Uganda, Klaus Dieter Düxmann.

The Kampala Club member, who grew up in the Katabi Baracks however reserved special praise for his employers at UPDF for the timely sponsorship.

The 3 day tourney teed off on Friday with the professionals who concluded on Saturday. Jinja based golfer, Fred Wanzala with a 6 over par 148 gross score beat on-form Entebbe based Vincent ‘Araali’ Byamukama by 2 strokes.

Former JBG Winners, Joseph Bogera (2011)  and Willy Deus Kitata (2012) were a no show for different reasons. The latter is in Europe for golf related stints.

The JGB Tournament was exclusively organised by Entebbe Golf Club and proudly sponsored by the Gauff Engineers under the firm JBG, running under the theme “Driving engineering innovations to the longest Hole”.
