Uganda’s top professional golfer Deo Akope, will be making his last attempt at making the cut when he takes part in the Abu Dhabi Golf Citizen Open at the Saadiyat Golf Club, Abu Dhabi from Oct 20-23.

Akope who has played in the last two tournaments on the Mena Tour that is the Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Classic and the Ras Al Khaimah Classic has failed to make the cut with gross scores of 155 and 150 respectively.

The Saadiyat Beach Golf Club features several beach-front holes with spectacular views of the Gulf’s glittering, crystal blue waters. 

The course design has been set up to cater for all types of players starting at 5290 yards, going up to 7,806 yards, which allows the course to challenge the world’s leading golfers.

A 317-acre par 72 beach / links style Championship golf course, it features three lakes and 67 bunkers. This year’s event has attracted 102 professional golfers from around the world with 20 Amateur mostly from the Middle East and North Africa.

The Entebbe based professional is seeking for the cut for him to broaden his chances of making his debut of the European Pro Challenge next year. 

Other East African golfers trying to muscle their way are Uganda’s Dennis Anguyo, Kenya’s Greg Snow, Hardeep Thethy and Rwanda’s Jean Baptiste Hakizimana.

Akope is making his debut on the Mena Golf Tour and last year Godfrey Mande, played on the same tour failing to make an impact.
