Lagos State Classic:
Elijah Emojong : 7th out of 127 participants with 5.5 points
Uganda Chess International Master (IM) continued his rich vein of form with a superb showing at the recently concluded Nigeria Lagos State Chess Classic, where he finished 7th out of the 127 participants.
There was a final day drama as the tournament leaders GM, ANTIC, Dejan of Serbia and IM EMOJONG Elijah of Uganda both lost on the final day to their Egyptian counterparts giving way to IM HESHAM Abdelrahman to lead the standings on 6. He was presented the Trophy at the presentation ceremony as he edged out others on a tie break with home boy, the Nigerian Onovuhe Ochuko.
The top five positioned participants shared Us Dollars 10,000 while Emojong also had his share of the stake money among the top 10 finishers of the total 127 chess players across the continent.
Emojong recently impressed in the DSK Chess Championships (Grandmaster Norm Section) in a late September (2013) and he came up with a 50% final score after registering a total of 4.5 points out of a possible 9 in seventh position out of 14 star studded participants.
Meanwhile, Caxton Kalule, the Uganda Chess Federation publicity secretary has announced that there will be a chess clinic for all interested chess beginners every saturday at Buganda Road Primary school.
“The Chess Fedeation in conjuction with Buganda Road primary school has organised a chess clinic for all those aged between 1-17 at Buganda Road Primary School every Saturday with a minimal fee of Ug shs 25,000/= per month. We shall provide reading tools”, Kalule adds.
