Uganda got off to a slow start at the seventh Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship (AAGTC) at Royal Swazi Spa Country Club in Swaziland today on the opening round of action.
Uganda’s best performer of the opening round was Fort Portal’s Adolf Muhumuza, who shot one over par 73 gross to push Uganda into seventh position out of 11 nations.
2012 Uganda Open winner and skipper of the team Phillip Kasozi, returned with a score of 3 over par 75 in his first day of action on par 72 course in Mbabane. Abbey Bagalana, who is in replaced Ronald Otile, was 6 over par 78 while the 2013 Uganda Open champion Peter Ssendawula, record a low score of 7 over par 79 to complete his round on the opening day of action.
Uganda ended the day with 226 gross and lies in seventh position going into tomorrow’s action. The organisers of the tournament will be determine the winners of the event considering the scores of the best three of the various national teams.
The six time winners and defending champions South Africa are second with 208 gross in their opening round while last year’s runner-up Zimbabwe have set the early pace leading with 204 gross. Kenya lies fifth with 217 points.
