It will be a dream come true when Gulu United’s Kipper Luwalo, flys out to London, England for one week trial with League One’s Brentford Football Club.
The budding youth player was spotted by the English club’s owner Adrian Bradbury during the inaugural Gulu United youth training camp this past September, and he impressed all the local coaches and caught the eye of the League One’s Academy’s head of coaching Stuart English.
“From day one Kipper was calm and great 1-on-1, with a good change of pace,” said English. “He worked hard off the ball and considering he was one of the younger players in his group, he always stood out.”
Kipper is a strong, tall and athletic attacking player. At just 15, he was incredibly composed on the ball, technically strong and showed that he can play both striker and in an attacking midfield role.
His English is also superb and he is a very personable young man that will bring great energy to his time at Brentford.
Over the past three years, Brentford FC has completely overhauled their academy and just this summer became the first League One club to go from a Centre of Excellence, to being officially recognized as a Category Two Academy in England. Their guidance and support has been integral to the rebirth of Gulu United, through youth.
Kipper will spend an entire week training with Brentford, which will include a match against the academy of Championship side Queen’s Park Rangers.Joining Kipper in London will be Gulu United coach Geoffrey Akena.
“This is a unique opportunity for Kipper and Geoffrey, and one I’m certain they’ll take full advantage of,” said Bradbury. “Gulu United, Brentford and all of the United for United supporters have made this possible, and my goal is to make sure this is just the beginning.”
