Women Finals:  Game 2:
KAVC 2 -3 Ndejje University Elites (23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-14, 13-15)

Serie B Finals: Game 1

Cobap 0 – 3 KCCA (18-25, 22-25, 23-25)

Ndejje University Women Volleyball team edged closer to successfully defending her national volleyball league crown following a pulsating 3-2 (23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-14 and 13-15) victory over arch-rivals, the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) during game 2 of the finals series played at the MTN Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday night.

“We have won but its been evidently seen that the referees were biased, they came with ill intentions against us”, a bitter Johnson Kawenyera, the Elites’ coach fumed as the triumphant girls stretched their bodies following action that took 1 hour and 49 minutes of thrills, tension and excitement.

The Elites started the game in brilliant fashion winning the first 2 sets . By the commencement of the opening set, the body language from the Luwero based girls spoke volume of their desire to add onto another game following the first 3-0 drubbing 5 days back on day one.

By the call of the first technical time-out, Saidat Nungi and company had fetched 10 successive points compared to KAVC’s 4, courtesy of the strong and accurate serves off Maureen Mwamula’s hands. However, KAVC staged a spirited fight back into the set, that was counted as a damage limitation as it ended 23-25 in 27 minutes, the longest duration of the 5 sets played.

The crowd cheered and jeered every serve, successful block and attack. The pressure grew from the stands onto the playing arena as the umpires could make questionable decisions that left the two sides angry.

By half-time, the defending champions had opened up a 2 set lead, this time with a quicker set victory (22 minutes) with a 25 – 15 scoreline.

Coach Hannington Nsubuga’s words at half time might have provided the spark as KAVC returned to the fold in a complete fold – winning set three in 23 minutes with a 25-15 margin before leveling matters in the quickest time recorded on the night of 19 minutes (25-14) – all thanks to attacker, Irene Adeke’s powerful shots off the net and a collective effort of the fore court to block off any Ndejje threat.

KAVC’s strong determination and effort meant the game was pushed into the deciding 5th set – a translation of an adrenaline finish from the 2 sides. KAVC drew the first blood as they led 8-5 going into the customary inter-change of sides at the half-way mark.

The noise in the arena grew to unbearable levels as The Elites leveled 8 all and out stretched by a point and the sequence margin followed before they broke off from 13 all to make the game point and the winning point that make its 2 out of 2 thus far and only one win from a successful defense of a title they claimed last year.

In the earlier game played, it took Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) one hour and ten minutes to dispose off COBAP  3-0 in the game one of the serie B finals.

The games resume over the weekend and as usual Kawowo Sports will update you of the latest out comes.
