Inter-Continental Low Kick Title Fight:

Moses Golola (Uganda) 2 -1 Poczo Zoltan (Romania) – [50-49, 45-50, 49-47]

Outspoken Ugandan Professional kick boxer, Moses ‘The Hot Temper’ Golola has once again scooped another highly controversial fight victory over Romanian opponent, Poczo Zoltan in a 5 round fight supervised by Hungarian, Istavan Rozman, played before over 15,000 spectators at the newly opened Natete Shopping Center in the wee hours of Sunday night .

Two of the three judges have ruled in the motor-mouthed fighter’s favour (50-49 and 49-47) while the third completely had a different perspective of the fight that he envisaged as a 50-45 victory for the 36 year old Romanian whose record has now gone to 27 professional fights, 5 defeats and 2 draws.

In the 5 rounds played, each constituting 2 minutes, the Romanian fast hitter, who incidentally weighed  2 kilograms less of Golola’s 75 certainly proved the better fighter with balanced kicks and punches.

The home crowd which flocked the Natete Center parking lot as early as 4 pm had a  deafening cheerful shout as ‘The Hot Temper ‘ entered the ring at 1: 20 am in accompanied with musician, Bobi Wine. There after, they had different thoughts of the home fighter, as he struggled to throw punches later on kick the slighter taller opponent. Many a times, Golola, who was in the red corner resorted to “hugging” and holding tight the Romanian.

It was only in the 4th round that Golola’s only kick of the chilly moon lit night, a well timed left effort wheeled the south paw kicker boxer to the canvas and the crowd this time had the genuine reason to smile with Golola whose coach, Richardson Kigozi wore a worried face for his prized asset fighter.

As the night’s ring M.C, Meddie Nseereko Ssebuliba read to the expectant crowd the judges’ results, the Romanian was left perplexed as the communication was entirely in the local verncular language of luganda.

“Its 2 -1 where the first round was 50-49, 45-50 and 49-47”, Nsereko murmured leaving even the local fans more confused because he mixed up the word judges for rounds.

Nsereko laboured to tell the public Golola had won and the bitter reaction from the majority expressed the shock results. Perhaps, the Veteran referee, Charles Paddy Wandera Mugoya had no choice but to declare the Golola the fight winner, a second controversial win for him a fight that involved Andreas Nagy ended with no clear cut winner, not until the day’s M.C, declared Golola the winner.

” I will continue to train hard and beat them in similar fashion, i am the true hot temper”, Golola said after being presented the Inter-Continental Belt that was at stake.

The visibly shocked Zoltan left the ring and his conversation with Kawowo Sports through an interpreter proved that the judges or the MC might have blundered with the results.

“I am not contented with the results, but what do expect on a foreign territory?”, the soft spoken Zoltan said through his personal trainer and coach on the night.

The Best and Worst at the Fight:

Marketing of this event as first class, thanks to Abitex Productions, Silk Events, City Tyres, Samona Products Limited and the main promoter of this fight, Ssalongo Kasawuli Samona. The bout cum festival sold out as fans struggled to catch seats later on have a great view. Under card fighters gave their best count particularly the ladies and Sharif Bukenya in the professional Under card contest as he knocked out Poliratoo Mwesigwa.

Entertainment was granted, in fact one could have easily mistaken the bout for a music concert. Musicians Mescah Ssemakula, Stecia Mayanja, The Good Lyfe Crew, Bebe Cool, Grace Nakimera and obviously Bobi Wine who ushered in Golola into the ring all never disappointed.

Perhaps, time management on the African continent particularly in Uganda will remain a basic concern. Under card fights started as late as 11 pm and by the time the main fight commenced at 1:20 am, kick boxing fans who had early work appointments the following day had left.

Failure to get a clear cut methodology of determining the winners will forever haunt our dear motherland and this dirtens the otherwise fast growing image of Kick boxing in Uganda.

Sports Reporters’ and General Public Insecurity:

At the end of the belt presentation and speeches, it was 2:00 am, a very tempting time for travelers at that time. Reporters for instance cornered at one place for fear of thugs robbing them of the expensive cameras, lap-tops and related work devices. Organizers ought to work within the time frame.

Otherwise, its over now to you and the debate just starts afresh, did Moses Golola, who promised to climb Mountain Dew and Turn the Jaw of the Romanian deserved to walk away with the Inter-Continental Title belt????
