It will be a brotherly battle this afternoon when Dean Kibirige meets his younger brother Carey Kalungi in
the finals of the Makerere University Kampala Knock Out tennis tournament at Makerere tennis courts.
Enroute to the final Kalungi disposed off unseeded Ceaser Yiga in straight sets 6-4,6-2 while his older sibling Kibirige was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Andrew Kutesakwe last week to book a dream final today.
It will be Kibirige’s third time he is playing in the finals of the knock-Out Tournament (2002, 2008 & 2013) though at the first two occasions he failed to lift the accolade.
“I hope this time around I can win this event and make history,” Kibirige said. “My brother is a good player and I believe he will give me a good run on the clay courts.”
The tournament has been an annual event that has seen players from Makerere Tennis Club and elsewhere battling for honours every year.
Kibirige lost last Friday to Moses Otiti, in his opening game of the Friday Tennis Explosion at Center Court at Lugogo tennis club.
