City Oilers Vs Falcons (Best-of-7 series start on Friday at 7:30pm)
May be it wasn’t shocking that the City Oilers became a surprise hit because of the business they did on promotion, but did you ever imagine they would get to the finals ahead of Dmark Power?
At this point it doesn’t matter whether you ever did or not, but one thing for sure is many (you inclusive) will be looking at how the referees will facilitate the message coming down from ‘above’, which can easily change the direction of the series.
While a lot of eyes will be on the referees assigned to judge the series and the ‘key’ individual match ups – Kami Kabange versus Philip Ameny or Serge Kabangu or Herbert ‘Shaq’ Akitah, Jimmy Enabu versus Geoffrey Omondi, Arou Ramadhan versus Serge Kabangu or Philip Ameny and the ultimate one of Oilers versus Steven Omony – there is one player on that Falcons’ team who looks at every City Oiler as one who can potentially hurt Falcons.
No need to guess, that player is Steven Omony. “We look at everybody on that team (City Oilers) as a threat because they can punish us” he told Kawowo Sports after Wednesday’s practice.
“They have got good players and they have demonstrated that by getting here. You can’t take them for granted and pick out one or two, we have to play even harder” he added.
But he did not dismiss the fact that Kami leads that team and needs special attention. “We have to limit his touches on the ball and make it difficult for him to use that ball” the star forward said.
Meanwhile, Omony’s teammate and possibly the most defensive player in this league Geoffrey Omondi similarly does not hide his respect for the Oilers but he not sure of the challenge going into the first of the seven-game spread .
“They are a good team and you can’t look at them as a team from division 2. Some of those guys have played at the finals” the guard told Kawowo Sports
“We are going to play freely in game one and see how it turns out to figure them out proper” Omondi added.
