The inaugural edition of the ‘Kampala Kids Run’ (KKR) race was officially launched at Kampala Parents International School in Kololo over the weekend.
This KKR marathon that is organized by Kampala Kid’s Run Limited, is primarily designed to bring a smiling face to the recent flood-affected kids of Kasese district and will take place on Sunday, 15th-12-2013 at Kati-Kati.
While talking at the launching event, Kiwanuka Muslim, the marathon’s director, furthermore enlightened it that, the race “is not only aimed at nurturing kid’s talents into future sportsmen and world champions, but also is intended to promote good health of the children”. Kiwanuka said.
“Therefore, I call upon parents and guardians to register their children between the ages of 5 and 15 and take part in this marathon” Kiwanuka who doubles as the race’s promoter added.
At the same event that was held in Kampala Parents International School’s main hall, Kiwanuka Muslim, give out free two tickets and T-shirts to several pupils of the latter school. This charity Kids’ race will see children compete in three categories (1.5 and 3 kilometers marathon and the one of disabled) and each taking off at Kati-Kati main gate but starting at different times.
1.5km racers will be flagged off at exactly 8am; 3km racers will also take off 20 minute later while the Disabled children marathon will begin at 8:30am.
The trio categories will follow the demarcated areas on Jinja road-Lugog Bypass up the Kati-Kati grounds as the finishing line.
Best participants in each category will get free return air tickets (together with their parents/guardians) to Tanzania, free shopping vouchers worthy $85 and many other presentable prizes courtesy of sponsors.
Registration is going on at all Uchumi supermarkets at ugx 10,000 per kid.
This marathon that will see good first-aid services provision to all runners and secure environment, is sponsored by Air Uganda, NTV Uganda, Uganda Police, and Serena Hotels.
Other sponsors also include Pepsi, Hema Water, Uchumi supermarket, Capital One radio and AAR Paramedics.
Entertainment from Spiderman, face painting, Egg hunting bouncing castle among others will be in plenty at the final day. Spiderman will also amuse.
