Following an impressive performance all season round, Scrap Yard Pool club from Kisenyi slum are the 2013 Pilsner pool league of Kings Champions, their maiden title ever.
Inspired by Wasswa Kayiiya, who marks an unprecedented 8th national pool title for the rookie, Scrap Yard looked destined for the title right from the opening stages of the league campaign.
Kayiiya has now won the national title with the third pool club after 5 consecutive titles with Skin Samona and one apiece from DV 8 and California pool sides.
Scarp Yard claimed the title following an impressive 16-4 home victory over Nakawa Pool Rangers. Wasswa Kayiya’s efforts all season were complemented by Skipper, Ali Ssebana, Emmanuel Sserwanja, Akankwasa Salim, the deaf Ivan Kanyesije, Ronald Kizito and Charles Segawa.
“ I am extremely happy to see my team win this year’s top flight league title. We have good players and have always been hopeful of lifting more trophies especially after emerging Club’s Knockout Champions last season. We are happy with our players and we intend to keep them in the team next season to enable us claim more glory” said a smiling Kityo Joseph, the club’s chairman.
“As league managers, we have witnessed a lot of surprises this season. Favourites like Skinsamona that has 4 Top PAU Seeds finishing in 4th place could not be imagined when the season was starting. This season surely presents a learning curve to all clubs – a testimony that the stiff competition has now caught up with the former untouchable giants of the sport.
At PAU, we encourage all clubs to not only believe in their players but also grow and better their skills” said Michael Mawanda, the PAU Publicist.
On his part, the PAU Chairman, Mr. Farouk Kisuze thanked Pilsner and Uganda Breweries for having injected in a lot of cash to boost the pool league.
“All these changes like the growth in skill of pool players, the stiff competition amongst clubs in all divisions, the improved pool player discipline and professionalism in the management of the 3 divisions are a result of the sponsorship we received from Pilsner. I convey to Uganda Breweries appreciation on my own behalf and on behalf of all our members” said Mr. Kisuze.
