Kenya midfielder Teddy Anthony Akumu believes the semi-final game against Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro’s Stars was the toughest his side has played so far in this year’s GOtv Cecafa Challenge Cup.

Hosts beat Tanzania 1-0 in a fiercely contested semi-final game played under flood lights at Nyayo stadium on Tuesday thanks to an early goal from Miheso and Akumu says it was more like a war on the pitch.

“It was a more like a war against Tanzania but thank God we managed to win it”, Akumu told Kawowo Sports immediately after the match.

“Tanzania gave us a tough game but fortunately, we were able to counter their threat and we are now into finals”, he added.

The Gor Mahia FC midfielder was voted Man of the match after his impressive show in the centre of the pack and was involved in the winning goal after his shot from over 40 yards was parried by his club team mate Ivo Mapunda in Tanzania’s goal into Clifton Miheso’s path which he easily converted to send Kenyan fans into frenzy.

“I must confess Tanzania is the toughest opponent we have so far faced.” On his man of the match award, Akumu thanked his team mates and coach insisting it’s a team triumph.

“I thank my team mates plus my coach whose trust in me is beyond anyone. He always encourages me to be the best.”

Kenya will now meet the Falcons of Sudan in the finals on Thursday at Nyayo stadium.
