CECAFA 2013 FINALS: 12th Dec 2013
Kenya Vs Sudan – Nyayo Stadium -4pm
Ahead of the 2013, Gotv Cecafa Senior Challenge cup final between the hosts, Kenya and Sudan, Nairobi City Stars’ Ugandan born Jimmy Bageya thinks the Harembee Stars possess an edge over Sudan to clinch the final fixture that is to be played at Nyayo National Stadium.
Bageya, who has spent 8 years in the Kenyan premier league reasons that Kenya’s home advantage and the psychological upper hand in relation to the 50 years’ celebration of independence are the main factors that will drive the coach Adel Amrouche side against a tricky Sudanese side.
“Kenya has been playing well from the start and i believe they will win against Sudan in the finals”, Bageya revealed to Kawowo Sports from his Donholm based residence in Nairobi.
“If Kahata and Allan (Wanga) co-ordinate well in attack, then Opiyo (defensive midfield shield) will do his work with Atudo and his defense helping Ochieng (goalie) to avoid conceding”, the former St Mary’s Kitende and Entebbe Young player added.
The pacy and tricky winger-cum-striker, who has previously played with current champions, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards however throws a word of caution to the Kenya backline spearheaded by the team’s top scorer, Jockins Atudo against complacency.
“Sudan has been impressive too. Even when they lost to Uganda, they showed character to play in harsh weather (the rain). Therefore the hosts should make sure that Sudan’s shirt 11 (Nadir Eltayeb), 19 (Amier Kamal) and the tournament top scorer, Salah Ibrahim are well taken care of”, soft spoken diminutive Bageya says.
The final will be proceeded by the battle for the third place position between tournament guest team, Zambia and Tanzania who lost in the semi-finals 2-1 (after extra time) and 1-0 to Sudan and the hosts, Kenya respectively.
