15th Inter-University Games:
16th – 21st December 2013
At UCU Mukono.
The stage is set. After close to a full year of preparations for the game’s village, the respective facilities and the teams, the long awaited 15th edition of the inter-university games is just hours to the highly anticipated kick-off at the Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono main campus on the 16th to 21st December 2013.
Over 20,000 athletes from 23 learning institutions across Uganda will converge in Mukono for the 6 day’s tournament where 16 sporting events will be competed for.
The Games Present will include Football, Badminton, Darts, Woodball, Swimming, Lawn Tennis, Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, Scrabble, Rugby , Athletics, Handball, Netball, Volleyball and Karate.
According to the opening day programme released by the local organizing committee,headed by Rev Milton Tweheyo, the universities are expected to assemble at the main games village by 7 am on the 16th December well in time for the 8 am briefing before a cross section of ceremonies that include hoisting the Universities and NUSFU flags will be undertaken.
Before the games commence, the different universities’ vice chancellors, deans of students and sports tutors will be engaged in a walk race session to curtain raise and lead the way.
Ndejje University are the games’ defending champions, having dethroned record champions, Makerere University the last time the games were hosted in Luweero.
It remains to be seen who will merge victorious in this year’s event given the adequate preparations of the respective teams and the massive recruitment that was undertaken.
Apart from the swimming event (will take place at Green Hill Academy), the rest of the 15 discipline will be held at the Mukono based campus.
Holders, Ndejje University, Kampala University, Makerere, Nkumba, MUBS and hosts UCU are expected to have a bloody and neck to neck race.
The Confirmed Institutions: Bishop Stuart University, Makerere University, UCU (Hosts), Bugema, Busoga, Cavendish, Gulu, IUIU, Nkumba, Kabala, KIU, Kampala University, Kumi University, Kyambogo, MUBS, MUST, Mountain of the Moon, Multitech, Mutessa 1, Ndejje, St Lawrence University and Uganda Martyrs’ University (Nkozi).
