Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi has completed a move to Tanzania’s giants Yanga SC.
According to one of the club officials Abdallah Ahmed Bin Kleb, the striker has inked a two and half year deal that will keep him at the club in June 2016.
Kleb confirmed that Okwi signed with the Vodacom Premier League (VPL) champions six days ago but the process has only been completed on Sunday December 15.
“He signed the contract six days ago but the transfer process has been completed today. He will be with us for two seasons and a half to come,” Bin KLEB told BinZubeiry.
Okwi returns to Tanzania for a second stint after featuring for Yanga’s rivals Simba SC between 2010 and 2013 before joining Tunisia’s Etoile Du Sahel for a reported fee of $ 300,000.
However, he mysteriously left Tunisia for alleged non pay and has been playing for SC Villa after the intervention of FUFA, CAF and FIFA to save his career but reports indicate that the player still has a standing contract with Etoile.
Asked about the controversy that surrounds the player, KLEB said: “We have followed everything including inquiring from reliable lawyers and we managed to get to his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“And we went through all sections, we have seen quite that we are correct in signing the player and there will not be any problem for us,” he said.
Okwi joins compatriot Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza at the club and is expected to represent the club starting the second round of the VPL and also in the Caf Champions League.
The moves puts an end to reports linking him to Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards.
