Scrap Yard Pool Club have been on Saturday morning crowned the 2013 senior pool league champions at a specially organised function at Kabalagala Capital Pub,a Kampala City Suburb.
Following an impressive performance all season round, Scrap Yard Pool club from Kisenyi slum won the 2013 Pilsner pool league of Kings Champions, their maiden title ever.
Inspired by Wasswa Kayiiya, who marks an unprecedented 8th national pool title for the rookie, Scrap Yard looked destined for the title right from the opening stages of the league campaign.
Kayiiya has now won the national title with the third pool club after 5 consecutive titles with Skin Samona and one apiece from DV 8 and California pool sides.
Scarp Yard claimed the title following an impressive 16-4 home victory over Nakawa Pool Rangers. Wasswa Kayiya’s efforts all season were complemented by Skipper, Ali Ssebana, Emmanuel Sserwanja, Akankwasa Salim, the deaf Ivan Kanyesije, Ronald Kizito and Charles Segawa.
“ I am extremely happy to see my team win this year’s top flight league title. We have good players and have always been hopeful of lifting more trophies especially after emerging Club’s Knockout Champions last season. We are happy with our players and we intend to keep them in the team next season to enable us claim more glory” said a smiling Kityo Joseph, the club’s chairman.
Other champions, Mambule Pool club (women champions) and Jinja’s Trust and Obey are the 2013 league one champions.
Meanwhile, the annual Christmas cup has kicked off at the same Kabalagala capital pub venue with over 150 male and female players in action of the 2 day tourney.
Cash prizes worthy 5 million are to be won.
