For the third year running, Amos Ndyagumanawe has proved to be unbeatable when it comes to the annual Christmas Pool Association Of Uganda (PAU) tournament.

The current seed three pool player, who also won the championship in 2012, overcame a strong field of over 120 players, including Aruu County member of parliament, Odonga Otto and the country’s best rated pool player, Alfred ‘Black Sheep’ Gumisiriza to take the top honors that came forth with a glittering plaque and Ug.Shs 1,000,000 cash prize.

“I am overwhelmed for my victory. It has been patience, hard work and commitment to win this Christmas cup once again”, an over joyed Amos told Kawowo Sports shortly after the prize giving ceremony of the tournament played over two days.

Ndyagumanawe beat fellow Skin Samona club mate, Alfred ‘Black Sheep’ Gumisiriza 5-4 in a grueling but action packed thrilling 1 hour and 17 minutes final played at Capital Pub, Kabalagala, a City Suburb pub.

Shamim Naluggwa won her maiden career title as she overcame Norah Nakabuye 4-3 in the ladies’ final to scoop the top cash prize money of Ug.shs 500,000.

Enroute her historic feat, Shamim had successfully bundled out last year’s champion, Vivian Kagoye, following a 3 straight semi final victory. Vivian however settled for the third place and smiled home with Ug Shs 125,000 cash prize.

For the first time ever, the Pool Association organized the doubles’ events. Despite losing in the final to Isa Tuzinde and Humphery Nsubuga, the Jinja District based duo of Ibrahim Sentamu and Navy Matovu who turn out for the newly crowned league one champions, Trust and Obey pool club were the revelation in the doubles. They worked and co-ordinated as a team as they saw out the highly fancied pair of the seed one and two (Alfred Gumikiriza and Sula Matovu respectively), before they eliminated 2013 Easter Champion, Fahad Ssewankambo who had paired with Club Samona teammate, Musa Ssekiriba.

The female doubles were taken by the pair of Shamim Naluggwa and Michelle Kyomugisha, who beat the seasoned Vicky Namuyanja and the left handed 2013 Kampala Open ladies’ winner, Ritah Niniisma.

The tournament was organized and proudly sponsored by Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) in conjunction with T-Mobile and Capital Pub Kampala, where it has been held ever since its inception.

Notably, the 2013 Nile Special national pool open champion, Jonah ‘Joker’ Turigye missed the 2 day event. The Christmas Cup is the year 2013 pool ending event as preparations for the annual pool day start.
