India Woodball International
At St. Xavier’s Sports Complex
Jaipur, Rajasthan.
8th – 14th January 2014
Uganda’s seed one female woodball player, Lillian Zawedde has at long last flown out of Uganda to Jaipur in the Indian Rajasthan City where she will compete in the Indian International Woodball championship slated to start Thursday (9th January) and end on the 14th.
The reigning Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) female woodball player of the year had been denied a visa to travel to India after the Indian High Commission in Uganda had requested for a letter of endorsement from the Indian Sports Ministry.
Zawedde traveled using the Ethiopian Airline, Boeing ET 810 with a stop over in Addis Ababa after all her documents were finally cleared.
“Thank to God, all the paper work was done and i happy to represent my country once again”, a smiling Zawedde, who was accompanied by her 7 year daughter, Martha Deborah Kisakye told Kawowo Sports at the Entebbe International Airport Departure lounge.
Zawedde returns to the international woodball meet on foreign land having participated in the Asian Woodball International Championships in September 2013 which took place in Malaysia.
In the Malaysian do, she spurred her foreign teammate, Sin Ah Eng to stroke 66 in the 12 gate contention in the doubles category and finish fifth in the ladies doubles at 17th Malaysian Open Championships.
Earlier on, she had finished a respectable 5th out of over 400 players in the singles. She also played in China for any tournament where she excelled too in the year 2013.
On the local scene, Zawedde, who still enjoys the supremacy, thanks to the composure and expertise on the mallet, has almost won every title on the grass and sand circuits, including the 2013 Uganda ladies open title, the inter-university championships (at UCU), among other local open tourneys.
“This is a new year, i do not fear anybody though i reserve some respect for the Chinese Taipei’s duo of Chen Chin Fan/ Wu Yu Hui”, Zawedde swore.
