African Club Hockey Championships
Kampala – Lugogo Hockey Grounds

Two Egyptian arch rival hockey clubs, Elsharkayya and Egypt Hockey Police are in Kampala ready for the Africa Club Hockey Championships in Kampala.
The 2 clubs that do not see eye to eye trained at the Lugogo Hockey grounds on Thursday and will join 18 other men and women clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania Nigeria and Ghana for the week long event that starts this Saturday.
“This competition is an annual activity of the Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF), serves as a platform to identify new playing and officiating talents and to engender competition among member National Associations (NAs)”, read a statement from Uganda Hockey Federation.
The tournament brings together top two teams in both genders across leagues in the continent. “It is also recognized as the flagship event of the AfHF and therefore commands a lot of attention and support among NAs”, the statement continues.
Current defending champions are Orange Telkom Hockey Club and Egypt’s Elsharkayya Hockey Team in the Ladies and Men’s categories respectively.
Uganda was last represented in this event in 2009 by Weatherhead Hockey Club (Ladies) where they only managed to emerge 4th Out of 4th; in the event that was held in Nairobi.
