CHAN 2014 Group B Result:
Uganda 0 -0 Zimbabwe
Ugandan goal keeper, Benjamin Ochan staged an outstanding performance as Uganda Cranes and Zimbabwe settled for a non-scoring draw in the Championship of African Nations Match played at Anthlone Stadium in South Africa.
Ochan, made several daring saves from Central striker Simbarashe Sithole, Ali Sadiki and Donald Ngoma, when even scoring looked so easy.
The central African nation had the better of the game and pressed Uganda to the wall as the latter tried to match the fast paced and silky passing opposition. Infact, the Ugandan side got early frustrations when central defender Richard Kassaga was booked for an avoidable tackle on Sithole while right back, who was later replaced by Nico Wadada also got to the referee’s books for the wrong reasons.
Uganda coach, Micho made one commanding change form the team that started against Burkina Faso. Francis Olaki started ahead of Vicent Kayizzi.
Olaki had an impressive performance when he was introduced into the game and chipped in the cross for Uganda’s second goal. Against Burkina Faso, Olaki was only making his second appearance in a Uganda Cranes shirt having marked a scoring debut against Mauritania in Kampala a fortnight ago.
He was however replaced late in the game when Simon Okwil replaced him 9 minutes to full time. Uganda now hits the summit of group B with 4 points while Zimbabwe is glued on 2 points following an earlier draw against Morocco in the opener.
Micho’s earlier change in the game was the replacement of an ineffective Brian Majwega for Joseph Mpande who showed glimpses of brilliance with 2 lung busting runs though that final ball off his otherwise effective feet.
By press time, Morocco was due to play Burkina Faso in the other group B game.
