Twenty four nations have confirmed their participation for the 12th Cana Zone III and IV swimming championships from April 24-27 at the Kampala Parents School Swimming Pool.
It’s the biggest swimming championship that the Uganda Swimming Federation will be hosting in the new year and is expected to attract close to 3,000 tourists, officials and close to 500 international journalists from the continent.
“It’s the biggest event on our national calendar and we expected some great competition at the event that brings some of the best swimmers from the continent,” Moses Mwase, the USF general secretary said. “It will give our swimmers a good opportunity for exposure especially our national swimmers that will be taking part in the Commonwealth games in summer in Glasgow, Scotland and the World Youth Games in China.”
Uganda will enter a team of 50 swimmers that is both Male and Female in various age swimming catergories. The members from Zone III that have entered include Somalia, Tanzania, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi and the hosts. From Zone IV they include Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland and South Africa.
