NTV has signed a mega 1.8 billion shillings contract with Uganda Rugby Union to exclusively telecast live games of the local league and three international rugby games over three years.

The sponsorship deal was unveiled this morning at a brief ceremony held at Kyadondo rugby ground by NTV’s Head of Marketing Herbert Odankie and the URU’s chairman Andrew Owor.

“This is an important milestone to Ugandan Rugby and we are glad to sponsor this fast growing exciting sport in the country over the next three years we shall be screening 15 live games every year including one recorded game and host a weekly magazine programme on TV,” Herbert Odankie, said at the ceremony. “We have also committed 20 million shillings to the Uganda Rugby Referees Society with branded kits and allowances for the referee’s.” 

The deal sees the Union getting 620 million per year that will be shared by the Union and the Sponsor into also includes and awards dinner every year and sponsors conference.

“Ugandan rugby has today reached a milestone by having selected rugby games broadcast live on local and regional TV which will open up our activities to the region thereby giving the game our sponsors additional brand value and exposure,” Andrew Owor, the Uganda Rugby Union chairman said. “This partnership is unveiled in two categories that is Broadcasting rights for NTV and Sponsorship for the Uganda Rugby Referees Society.”
