MVP (Play- Offs) – Men: Kami Kabangu

MVP (Play – Offs) – Women: Peace Proscovia

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) Awards held on Saturday night at Imperial Royale Hotel saw varying fashion statements recorded as the guests dined, almost drowned in plenty of drinks and food of all nature.

But two towering individuals whose evening will be in scripted on their life timeline are City Oil basketball and Uganda Christian University Lady Canon forwards, Kami Kabange and Peace Proscovia respectively.

The duo returned home the most decorated players with the Play-off Most Valuable Gongs, top scorers’ award for Kami and the winners’ medals apiece (2013 league).

“It is an honor to have all these awards. Surely, it has been an effort of teammates, otherwise, my individual effort alone would not have brought me these accolades”, Kami, who was second best to Vegetarian’s Benard Okumu in the regular spoke to Kawowo Sports in an exclusive interview.

Though, the awards ceremony itself lacked the real spark of a season climaxing event , M.C Joseph Ikong kept the jokes flowing.

Perhaps, his audience seemed to turn the focus on their private season conversation later on, the drinks and foods.

Chief Guest, Sports Commissioner, Omara Apitta, who was representing Sports Minister, Charles Bakabulindi, most mixed fermented wine with the ‘clean’ water as he mistakenly acknowledged rival sponsors, but he was quick to recognize and correct the mix-up.

Back to the awards night, that also saw a minute’s moment of silence for fallen Falcons’ John Ssimbwa, City Oilers’ Kami Kabange, UPDF’s Moses Muhumuza and UCU’s Peace Proscovia scooped the most accolades.

Everytime, Moses Muhumuza stepped up the podium to collect his individual awards, his UPDF teammates moved alongside him and the DJ played the East African anthem, much to the applause of the crowd, 3 quarters of whom were already excited- thanks to the abundant castle lite drink in the house courtesy of the sponsors.

In one of the surprises of the night, Vegetarian’s Benard Okumu beat Kami to the most valuable player of the season regular season gong.

The event was proudly organized by Federation of Uganda Basketball Federation (FUBA), sponsored by Nile Breweries under the castle lite brand, NBS and Urban Television stations.
