National Insurance Company (NIC) Netball club were declared the 2013/14 National League Champions over the weekend.
This was after NIC got a walk over from Uganda Christian University team who never turned up for the last fixture of the league.
NIC will receive the trophy and their gold medals on Saturday, 15th-2-2014 at Nakivubo.
NIC head coach, Hajjat Fatia Kitaka cherished her prayers for the efforts put in since the league begun until this time of celebrations.
“It’s my girls that have done the job, not me”. Fatia Kitaka told Kawowo Sports shortly after grabbing free points from the absent UCU at Namboole Stadium.
“They (NIC players) always don’t want to lose any game. “They play each game as final and they have good discipline”. Kitaka continued to tell Kawowo Sports.
“And I would like to thank our sponsors for the support they have given to us, I promise to bring more and more trophies”. She added.
NIC topped with 10 points, followed by Prisons with 8points, while Police finished third with 6 points.
UCU who never honored their last 4 games of the league ended in fourth place.
KCCA finished fifth with two points, while Blue Star concluded the league at the bottom with no single point.
Last season’s top four finalists, NIC, Prisons, Police and UCU will represent Uganda in the East Africa Nations championships on 22nd up to 30th of March this year.
In the other last games of the season played on Saturday, prisons beat KCCA 50-21. The latter eventually won Blue Star 52-15. The 2014/15 season is scheduled to begin on 20th-April-2014.
