Men’s Singles: Onesmus Atamba – 45 Strokes

Women Singles: Joan Mukoova – 44 Strokes

Onesmus Atamba and Joan Mukoova easily clinched the opening beach woodball circuit of the year, 2014 at the Lake Victoria Entebbe based shorelines of Sports Beach on Sunday.

Mukoova returned the best scores of the day of 44 strokes, one better the men’s best winner, Onesmus Atamba, who tallied 45 strokes over the 12 gates played.

In one the biggest shocks of the evening, Lillian Zawedde, who has become a household name in the game missed out on the first three ladies’ positions as Gladys Nakijjoba and Victoria Nankabirwa returned 46 and 47 to finish second and third respectively.

Zawedde, the 2012 and 2013 women USPA Woodball player of the year, managed 4th place with 54 strokes, her second consecutive woodball blues.

Atamba Onesmus later paired up with long-term Woodball partner, Namuddu Sophie to win the Mixed Doubles. Brunno Bbosa and Joel Adupa combined to win the men’s doubles while Cissy Nakato and Viola Operu won the female version.

95 competitors from Bank of Uganda, Botladz Woodball Club, Ndejje University, Entebbe Woodball Club, MUBS, Nkumba, Ndejje Woodball Club, Proway Academy and the debuting Uganda Christian University.

Action now shifts to the Junior’s championships in Mukono (Feb. 28) and Entebbe (Mar. 8) at Victor’s Junior Christian Academy and Lake Victoria School respectively.
