11th Venus Golf Tourney:

Overall Winner: Robert Happy – 68 Gross / Nett

Ahead of next week’s national team qualifiers at Uganda Golf Club , Kakungulu and Entebbe courses, Kilembe based national golfer, Happy Robert was in buoyant mood as he perfectly warmed up for the qualifiers with yet another awesome round of golf, winning the 11th Venus Golf tourney, his second in a row.

The handicap 0 golfer, nicknamed ‘Par 3’ for his diminutive structure, carded a course 2 under score of 68 with a mind boggling 31 gross score from the back 9 holes that included a hole 13 eagle and birdies on 4, 10, 12, and 16.

“The Venus win is a great impetus ahead of the national team qualifiers early next month. It was a great action here (Toro course) because I have always performed well when the course is dry. Though the first 9 was a disappointment (37 gross), I made amends in the back 9”, Happy revealed to Kawowo Sports, shortly after putting the final ball on hole 18.

Speaking of the national team qualifiers, Happy is optimistic he will make the cut. “The Competition is very stiff but I will always strieve to make the cut and qualify”, he added.

Grateful to Sponsor:

Like many artisan golfers countrywide, Happy has previously faced the challenge of participating in several tournaments.

The script will now be differently written for the Kasese based golfer. Even since the timely boost of Peter Robson, of Hima Cement, he has been able to secure sponsorship to attain transport for tourneys, equipment, meals and accommodation, green and caddy fees.

“Robson’s assistance has helped me concentrate more on my game than the necessities. I am so thankful to Robson”, he said as he presented the trophy he won to the sponsor.

Professional Dream

To every amateur golfer, there lies an underlying burning passion and desire – to turn professional and join the money bracket class of players.

Happy’s dream is to be one of the elite golfers in the country and start earning his bread and butter from his toils on the course.

“I want to work hard and become a professional golfer. One short cut is winning the Uganda open. I will give it a go with all my effort and concentration this time round. Probably, I will be able to employ a special diet expert, swing coach  and other professionals who will up my game.” he says.
