Ugandan born Swede Nora Kagonyera, who is playing on the lucrative 2014 Sunshine Ladies Tour has been ranked 29th in the Order of Merit an achievement the first of it’s kind for a East African lady golfer.

The first Ugandan lady professional golfer who is now a Swedish citizen has been tackling the Ladies Tour and recently played in the Sunshine Ladies Tour in Houghton, South Africa together with Sunshine Ladies Tour Lost City in the same country.

Kagonyera is has earned 5,035 South African rands after playing the two tournaments in South Africa. She is 29th out of 36 Lady golfers from Africa with South Africa’s Monique Smit leading after playing in three tournaments.

Kagonyera, is a cousin of one of the greatest golfer’s of Uganda Dedan Kagonyera. She also has won the prestigious Uganda Amateur Ladies Championships in 1997 and 2000 at the Uganda Golf Club at Kitante.

“She is an inspiration to lady golfers here in this country,” Former Uganda Ladies Golf Union president Jasper Kamukama, said in an e-mail. “By the time we were playing she was our top player and is still playing top class golf.”

Uganda’s top lady golfer Flavia Namakula, has been pushing to play on the Ladies Tour and has also been advised to turn professional.
