Lugazi Golf Club’s Ronald “Rasta” Bukenya together Toro Golf Club’s Adolf Muhumuza, took a four shot lead to take a joint lead in the opening round of the Uganda Golf Union national team qualifiers at the par 72 Kitante golf course at Uganda Golf Club this afternoon.

The cornrolled Bukenya shot a score of 2 under par 70 together with Muhumuza, to share an early lead in the three day qualifiers that shifts to the par 71 Entebbe course tomorrow.

“I registered seven birdies starting with hole 1,3,5,8,14,15 and 18 my approach today on the course was good and I had a excellent game while putting,” Bukenya said at the club house. “I am looking forward to tomorrow’s action on the very unpredictable Entebbe course.”

Entebbe’s Robert “Escobar” Oluba and Jonathan Musinguzi from Toro Golf Club where joint third and fourth with scores of 2 over par 74 respectively. Ronald Rugumayo, also from Toro Club shot a score of 3 over par 75 to complete the top five. 

The qualifiers are being used to selected a formiable national squad to represent the nation at the Zone Six and Africa Junior championships due in South Africa and Zambia to be held next month.

Golfer of the year Willy Deus Kitata from Entebbe Club was 4 over par 76 going into tomorrow’s round that will see all the golfers play a total of 36 rounds on the 18 hole course.

Uganda Open winner Peter Ssendaula was 7 over par 79  and outside the top ten going into round two of tomorrow’s action.
