Ahead of the Africa Cross Country Championships to be held at Kololo Independence grounds due 16th March, Uganda Athletics Federation is still short of funds, awaiting fulfillment of a pledge, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made last year.

The President promised 360,000 dollars at a Stephen Kiprotich appreciation dinner at his country home in Rwakitura, funds that could be utilised for organisation of the Championships.

According to Uganda Athletics Federation President Dominic Otuchet, funds for the event will be available according to his contacts in State house, though time could be running out, since hotels for the athletes and officials haven’t yet been procured.

“Am in touch with many people linked to state house and they have assured me the money will come,” he told local media. “However, our major challenge is that time is running out.” There are services that we have to procure in time, like the hotels for the athletes and officials.”

The last African Cross Country Championships were held in Capetown, South Africa in 2012 and this will be the 3rd edition since its relaunch in 2011. 26 African countries have confirmed participation.
