Famaliar faces booked their places for the national team in the final and decisive round at the par 72 Kitante golf course as the Uganda Golf Union national golf qualifiers ended.
Golfer of the year Willy Deus Kitata, returned the best scores of level 72 and ended with a total of 308 other golfers with impressive scores include Adolf Muhumuza, who returned with one over 73 while his club-mate from Toro Golf Club Ronald Rugumayo was two over par 74 with both having totals of 297 and 298 respectively.
“We have selected the best 20 golfers based on merit, who will be joined by Phillip Kasozi and Henry Lujja, who were not able to participate in these qualifiers because they had to attend the pro-am event at the Kenya Open,” Kiryowa Kiwanuka the president of the Uganda Golf Union said. “A final team will be selected to represent Uganda in the Zone IV championship in Cape Town, South Africa in April, Africa Junior Championship in Lusaka, Zambia, the East Africa Golf Challenge in august and any other international engagements.”
The new entrants on the team include Abraham Ainamani, Emmanuel Agwari, Jonathan Musinguzi,Andrew Byaruhanga, Becca Mwanja and Denis Otim.
Notable names that returned to the national fold include Happy Robert, Patrick Mugisha, Lawrence Muhenda, Ronald Otile, Ronald Bukenya, Patrick Mwaka, who was making a return to the team.
The national team selection was conducted over three days with the opening round of action played over 18 holes while yesterday they played over 36 holes and the decisive round over 18 holes.
