With games far and less in the golfing season that won’t be the same this time around as 19 professional golfers will start their season this Friday when they take part in the Sure Telecom/NTV sponsored Ladies Captain’s Prize at the par 72 Kitante golf course.

It will be the first event on the side for the Ugandan professional golfers with 19 golfers from around the country battling for a kitty of sh5m over 18 holes at Uganda Golf Club.

“It’s the first tournament for the professionals and we expect a huge entry,” Sadi Atibu, the Uganda Golf Club teaching professional stated. “Tournament’s are few in the season so it gives all of us an opportunity to keep ourselves occupied.”

Uganda’s representatives at the just concluded Barclays Kenya Open golf championship Deo Akope and Denis Anguyo, will spear head the group of golfers others expected to take part include Emmanuel Onito Opio, Fred Wanzala, Ian Odokonyero, Said Mawa, Grace Ocici Onito, Brian Toolit from Jinja while from Entebbe they will be Silver Opio, Steven Odong, Vincent Byamukama, Dickson Lagoro, Gerald Ayella and George Olayo from Kampala their will be Herman Mutaawe, Sadi Atibu, Brian Mwesigwa and Deo Akope.

The Ladies Cup is held every year with the current captain hosting an event during her term in office this year’s edition is being organised by the out-going captain Aggie Konde Asiimwe, who was recently replaced by Dr Kathy Kabenge.

The tournament itself will be held on Saturday with the lady golfers in action in the main event while the subsidiary that includes the men will also be held on the same day. The caddies held their tournament on Monday and was won by Farouk Issa and Hadijah Nampijja.

The tournament is, jointly sponsored by NTV, Aqua Sipi, ICEA and Serena Hotel.
