University Football League Season 3 launched

The 3rd edition of the University Football League (UFL) has been successfully launched with the inclusion of two more up country teams (Gulu and Busitema Universities).
The launch which took place on Thursday morning at Kati Kati restaurant in Kampala saw the readmission of Kyambogo University and the timely embracement of Uganda Christian University from Mukono District.
The league has seen thus grown from 8 to 12 with Kyambogo University making a return after serving one year suspension ban. “The teams will play a champions’ league format with 6 teams in two groups, where the best placed 4 go to quarter finals”, the league manager, Anthony Tumwesigye explained.
The first phase of the league will be played between March and April with the preliminary round of action.
The best top 4 teams from each of the two groups will then play the quarter finals and semifinals (which will be held on home and away basis).
A one legged final, which will be shown live on NBS TV will be held on a neutral ground. UgX 12 million has been ear marked as the prize money for the different teams in the competition.
Head of technical, Decolas Kiiza conducted the draws under the keen eyes of reporters, sports tutors ans various sponsors who were around.
The league, exclusively organized by Red Rhino saw 3 more sponsors on board. Money gram, NBS T.V, Airtel Uganda, Spedag Interfreight and United Assurance Company join the primary sponsors; Nile Special, Pepsi, Rwenzori Mineral water.
NBS Television becomes the official broadcasting company of the league, which also bars FUFA Big league and super league players.
Players such as Peter Otai, Muzamiru Mutyaba (KU), Yassar Mugerwa, Dan Nsubuga (Nkumba University), Siraje Musindo (MUST) are some of the products of the University league.

GROUP A: Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Kampala University (KU), Uganda Martyr’s University, NKOZI, Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Makerere University and Uganda Christian University (UCU)
GROUP B: Gulu University, Nkumba University, Ndejje University, Busitema University, Kampala International University (KIU) and Kyambogo University
