14.5 million Uganda shillings(500,000Kshs) will be up for grabs in the finals of the prestigious 2014 Bamburi Rugby Super Series finals on June 7 that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The overall winner will bag 14.5 million Uganda shillings(500,000 Kshs) and the finalist’s will walking away with sh8.4 million shillings(300,000Kshs) while the third placed team will get sh5.6 million shillings(200,000Kshs).
The Bamburi Rugby Super Series this year will take place from April 26-June 7 across five towns and cities in Uganda and Kenya.
Kampala will host all teams for the opening day of the tournament on April 26, followed by other matches in Kakamega, Nakuru, Machakos and the finals in Nairobi, Kenya.
The rugby tournament brings together selected best players in the country put into franchises and is expected to be the determinant for the national team qualifiers for the coming years’ selections.
This year’s tournament will be contested by six teams, two of which – Victoria and Rwenzori will be from Uganda. Kenya will be represented by four franchises namely defending champions Ndovu, Papa, Kifaru and Chui.
Hima Cement Limited has today unveiled a 50 million sponsorship package for the 2014 Bamburi Rugby Super Series as they continued support for sports development in Uganda.
The sponsorship package was received by the Uganda Rugby Union chairman Andrew Owor by the Hima Cement general manager Daniel Pettersson at Golf Course Hotel.
The Uganda Rugby Union has included new innovations in the series with the “Super Sato” concept that sees all match days take place at a single venue. Kampala will play host to four teams on match day one, Kakamega hosting match day two, Nakuru hosting match day three, Machakos hosting the semi-finals with Nairobi’s RFUEA grounds hosting the finals which will serve as a curtain raiser to the Kenya – Western Province international friendly which takes place on June 7.
