Friday Night Lights basketball is a fun event but only for the fans – not anymore for the teams and players. It is real competition! This was evident last night at the quarter finals as there were a lot of emotions, hard fouls, hustle play and an ejection.
The competition will even get stiff at the next round as the final teams were determined. It will be Team Sudi, Team Amoding, Team Blick and Team Ikong on the floor next Friday in search of a berth at the finals. Now that is competition.
Team Amoding need overtime to put a Jimmy Enabu inspired Team Enabu. After jimmy Enabu (25 points) hit free throws to take the game to overtime, his game winning 3-pointer drew steel and away. A relief to Team Amoding whose captain on the other end was sent to line and hit both throws to win the game. She was 13-for-16 from the line and finished with 21 points. Serge Kabangu added 16 points. This was the second time Team Amoding won a game in overtime.
Team Sudi dispatched a resistant Team Duxx to stay unbeaten. Thanks to Sudi’s two clutch threes that helped his team hold off their opponents. The shooting guard finished with 19 points and Kami Kabange added 18 points as Team Sudi advanced to the semi finals. Steven “Duxx” Tumwesigye sunk game high 30 points in a losing effort.
Team Ikong dumped Team Koma led by Joseph Ikong’s game high 29 points. Koma struggled to shoot from distance hitting just 2 of 8 attempts from down town but finished with 18 points. Francis Kasekende added 13 points as Team Koma crushed out.
In last quarter final game Team Blick saw off defending champions Team Malinga 52-39. Thanks to a balanced offensive play led by Sylvia Nakazibwe’s 12 points. Norman Blick added 9 points. Claire Lamunu led Team Malinga with 12 points and Joshua Etalu added 11 points.
