To spread the game of golf in the country the Mehta Golf Club in Lugazi, will be the first club in the country to take the initiative to the grass-roots this weekend when students of Mehta Senior Secondary School take part in the two day Orange/Mehta Lugazi Open golf tournament that swings into action on Saturday at the par 70 course.

According to the organisers of the two event four boys and three girls from the school who will be taking part in this Uganda Golf Union event the first tournament for the Lugazi club.

Over 200 golfers from across the country will be taking part in this tournament at the nine hole course. “This year we have planned to focus on developing the game to a larger segment by introducing the Group C ( Handicap 19-28), which was not there last few years,” NJ Paul, of Mehta Group of Companies said. “Also  we have been giving free training for some of the children in the Mehta SS school who will also be participating in the tournament.”

Last year’s winner is 2013 Uganda Open winner Peter Ssendaula, from Entebbe Club. The sponsors of this year’s event are Orange Uganda Limited and Mehta Group of Companies.
