Uganda Cranes will have to wait till April 27 to know which team they will face in their quest to qualify for the 2015 Africa Nations Cup to be held in Morocco.
This was revealed by the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson in a press conference held at the FA Headquarters in Mengo on Thursday April 10 at the official launch of the qualification campaign dubbed ‘Road to Morocco 2015’.
“The draw for the 2015 AFCON campaign in which Uganda will be amongst the teams will be held on April 27 at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt at 14.30hrs East Africa Time,” Edgar told the press.
Watson further added that it will be after then that the country will know whether to play the first leg home or away before revealing the dates gazetted by CAF for those games.
“The match dates for the encounters will be between May 16th – 18th May (first leg) and May 30th – June 1st and which shall learn after the draw whether to host the first leg or not,” Watson added.
It should be noted that Uganda Cranes will kick start the road to Morocco at the second preliminary round after the continental body ranked them number 26.
Incase Cranes qualify to the next round, they will be drawn for the 3rd preliminary round where 14 teams divided into two (7 Vs 7) play each other on a home and away knock out basis which games will be played between July 18th – 20th (First leg) and August 1st – 3rd (second leg).
The seven winners of the ties will then join the 21 teams seeded in the seven groups with group matches set to be played on Fridays/Saturdays and Wednesdays.
The first and second from the seven groups will automatically qualify for the finals in Morocco joined by the third best in all groups and hosts Morocco to make the 16 teams.
