He is 13 years old, he has no fear and attacks the fairways will alot of aggression, if given time and handled well he could become the next BIG STAR in Ugandan golf he is Godfrey Nsubuga from Lugazi.
The primary seven student at Lugazi West Primary School was an outstanding winner at the weekend in the Orange/Mehta Open golf championship in the junior golf category he started with an opening round of 55 and 54 nett to end with a impressive 109.
“My dream is too play for Uganda’s national golf team starting from the junior team,” the confident Nsubuga stated. “I have had the opportunity to play here at the Lugazi club and hopefully I wish I can play else where in the country.”
Nsubuga, is part of the students that are trained and are being groomed at the Mehta Golf Club as part of the club’s junior golf programme they are trained by amateur national golf player Ronald Bukenya.
Junior golfer is not new to the golf terrains in the country he was the youngest caddy at last year’s Uganda Open caddying for his coach and master Bukenya, now he has ventured onto the course and playing off handicap 26.
“I come from a family of six me being the last born I have five sisters and none of them plays any sport I decided that I want to do sports I am a footballer and golfer, but my love for the sport that am playing now is inseparable,” the chatty Nsubuga said with smile on his face. “Golf is a profitable sport and I believe it will take me places I love what I have learn’t on the course but I want to learn more.”
His favorite golfers on the local scene are Herman Mutawe, Brian Toolit and his coach Bukenya.
