Four-time NSSF Volleyball League winner KAVC are the best defensive team on cover, reigning champions Nemostars are the most dominant on attacker but also on net defense. The two sides faceoff this evening in Lugogo in what is projected to be a breathtaking launch of the 2014 season.
Nemostars defeated KAVC 3-0 in the best of five finals to win their second straight. KAVC who last clinched league glory in 2010 will have to rely on receiver-attacker Joel Endra and libero Emmanuel Elanyu to keep their cover intact.

“If our defensive game is up there we will be able to get a decent result at the end of the day,” Endra told kawowo.com. “Our attacker is quite strong, with Daudi (Okello) and Jensen (Chesist) am sure we can match Nemostars, not only in this fixture but all season,” he added.

KAVC and Nemostars met eight times last year, the latter won seven of those, five of the seven were in the league. Nemostars struggled against equally stronger opposition early this year, losing to Nkumba once and Sky twice in open tournaments.Though the first encounter of the year between the two sides saw Nemostars win it 3-1 during the Ndejje Open championship. “We had a bad run in the beginning but the whole team is in good shape, spirits are high, the mood is right ahead of the Saturday (Today) game,” said Nemostars captain George Aporu.

“New season new strategy, we will approach every game like it is the last, starting with the league opener,” he added. Aporu has every reason to be confident since the side has looked reborn after their two week’s participation at the Africa Club Championship where they finished 17th out of 23 teams. They defeated Sport-S 3-0 to defend the Jinja Open Volleyball Championship on their return.
