Golf Caddies from all over the country are eyeing the big prize in the first Jinja Caddie’s Golf Open that is set for the 9 hole par 70 Jinja club on April 28th.

“It’s the first time that caddies in this country will be playing in their own tournament,” Abbey Bagalana, the organiser of the tournament said. “I came with this idea after visiting South Africa last year seeing the artisans playing and also being part of the golf community.”

The Jinja club, Entebbe club and Uganda Golf club have similar caddies tournament’s, but this one is the first of it’s kind were the caddies will battling each other from all over the country with winners walking away with prizes.

The tournament itself is part of the Jinja Juniors Golf Association programmes that is supported by Jinja club and their new captain Joseph Nkuruziza and the chairman of the club and the chairman Andrew Kasigwa.

“The overall winner will get a trophy and also a jacket,” Bagalana added. “The tournament will be rotated and be played on other courses in the country it’s going to be a good intiative.”

Lady caddies that are expected include Rest Nalutaya, Agnes Namutebi, Lillian Kizza, Christine Sempala, Sharon Asiimwe and Agnes Namutebi just to mention but a few.

The tournament is sponsored by Footage Innovations, Gomba Fishing Industry, Jinja Club and Individual members of  the club.
