Scratch player Ronald Otile, will spear-head Team Uganda when they take part in the 2014 Africa Junior Golf Challenge that swings into action from April 27-May 1 at the Chainama Hills Golf Club, in Lusaka, Zambia.
The team was revealed today by Uganda Golf Union committee member Herbert Rwambibazi, at the Uganda Golf Club this morning. The side is made up of Toro club’s Otile, handicap +1 player Daniel Baguma, handicap 4 player Denis Otim also from Toro club and handicap 6 player Andrew Byaruhanga from Entebbe club.
“We are confident of this group of players and we believe they will do well this time around,” Rwambibazi said. “The biggest challenge that we shall face is from South Africa the defending champions and probably the weather.”
The format of the tournament will be played over 72 holes with stroke play over four days. The team score for each day shall be obtained by adding the best three of the four gross scores.
The trophy shall be awarded to the team with the lowest aggregate score. In case the team is less than three members, the team status be forfeited. In addition to the gross score, the team with best net score other than the teams in first or second gross will receive the net winning prize.
The team will be accompanied by national golf coach Deo Akope and Uganda Golf Union governing council member Oscar Semawere. Fourteen countries have confirmed their participation. Uganda last year finished fourth out of 15 countries.
